Abstract

PIARC, The Permanent International Association of Road Congresses is the most long standing international organization busying itself with themes touching upon road building and matters associated with this activity. Its basic aim is the encouraging of road-building throughout the world. Founded in 1909, it has 78 member nations amongst which are to be found all those of Europe. Of the 12 technical committees that it is made up of, the tenth is given over to the study of highways in city areas. The paper is a summary of the findings of this tenth committee after its 1991 sitting held in Marrakesh.
