Abstract

The paper holds that the overall well being of any population is betterd by action from without the usual strict limits of what is considered to be sanitation proper. Thus all that promotes better education, standards of living, freedom and public spiritedness as among the population at large is thought to favour their health. It is thus argued that health is first and foremost a matter politic and only after being so a subject for mere technical consideration. The paper offers Barcelona as a discussion point, annalizing the potential impact upon the health of its citizens of its variform political developments from the beginning of the transitional period to the present doing this within the overall terms of reference of the-Healthy Cities» project's ideas.
