The postulates behind and first results drawn from an investigation as to forms of urban life in the city of Madrid

Abstract

The paper decribes that methodologically pluralistic line of research that was put under way in Madrid from 1988 onwards to the end of determining such changes in the citizens' way of life as migth have taken place. Here, the more outstanding aspects of the methodological postulation are highlighted, as are some few results thought of special relevance from a viewpoint of social-cum-dwelling differentiation, these having been thrown up by the star tool of the study, its so-called «Questionnaire on Ways of Living». Likewise, some provisional conclussions as to the progress the chosen method has undergone are mentioned. The indicators in use have made clear that there exist new mechanisms of social-cum-dwelling differentiation and that these are becoming ever more wide-spread and are most sharply focussed in the case of the insertion within the urban fabric of its coming generations.
