The metropolitan structure of the city of Lima

Abstract

The pressure on the country's leading city centres and, most especially of the City of Lima itself, consequent upon the migratory drift that began back inthe 40s is here seen as having withered any possibility that might have existed of public means answering citizen demands for work, housing, services and equipments, transport and all too much else. The foregoing, it is held, has led inexorably to a lowering of living conditions and standards as within the cities. The city planning initiative undertaken by the local governing body of Lima from 1983 onwards, seeks to meet those very questions that this self same development has thrown up and, in doing this, to reach beyond the limitations inherant in previous working modes and their means.
