The rehabilitation of Vitoria-Gasteiz as a factor of social cohesion

Abstract

Without a doubt, the rehabilitation of the medieval heart of Vitoria-Gasteiz is the planning operation in a historical centre that is being given most attention is Spanish planning circles. Both its primarily social objectives, that mark a break with the general line of re-building-restoring, and its novel administrative working methods for the carrying through of the project have earned it this notice. The autor, participating directly in the operation, outlines the development of the historic centre, points out the deep seated problems that called for its being rehabilitated and then details the criteria behind the actions and interventions undertaken thus demonstrating how it is that they have allowed for such a deft handling of this planning operation.
