Abstract

The last decade has seen the urbanistic viewpoint shift fro m positive reformism at its beginnign to our present day pragmatic stance, this having been assumed after a period of nostalgia for what was architecturally artistic and creative. This change is however in itself no more than that undergone by Social Science in the same period where, after tossing out the structuralist thinking of the previous ten years, things have turned, yet again, towards a hitherto reviled empiriscsm. Be this as it may, the reality of our cities underscores just how inadequate old plans can prove when fatting up to new never-envisaged needs, the which drag along with them the call for a reconsidering of social and economic variants prior to any further thinking as to such worlds.
