Abstract

Well nigh the whole corpus of spanish urban historiographic studies over the last twenty years is covered by the paper that, notwithstanding, highlights the most important contributions to this. It takes as its starting point-as did «Ciudad y Territorio»- the year 1969, a period in which such studies were held in scant esteem and underlines the gradual and as yet incomplete process by which they have become accepted. Authors, models and lines of investigation are all thoroughly gone into as to their historiographical relevance and include such as bear upon the fore-runners of present-day urbanism and the works of the Art History Faculties. Finally, the valuable contribution to this field made by The Institute for Local Government Studies and its magazine, «Ciudad y Territorio» is underscored and a bright and promising future for the entire area forseen with a body of new and important papers.
