Abstract

The design of one or two town squares in Spain takes into account features that whill permanently be of use in the holding of fairs and such-like celebrations. Some of these are so designed so as to facilitate holding bullfights whereas others cater for spectator rather than actor needs. Of the second sort, Bustarviejo (prov. Madrid) is pointed out whereas that of Villarejo (prov. Avila) is chosen to represent the first, scene-itself, variety. Those fixed features that make the holding of bullfights possible are indicated. Of some 1,405 m2. of overall espace, some 883 m2. are shown to be adaptable and boxable. Two of the «scene's» sides are hounded by horadas or verticle granite posts slotted to take retaining planking, one of the others is by the Town House itself, this being furnished with banked seating and a bull pen whereas the last side is a full-time and permanent barrier wall. All four sides of the fair ground are supplied with fixed stone benches.
