Abstract

As has happened in other historical city centres, Oviedo has undergone changes of questionable validity. While the public sector has exerted itself in reclaiming certain prime building of value, private real estate capital has been busily recorverting estableshed housing. In this process planning has done but little other than to be used. to the benefit of private ventures as a means of eviction, this in turn being justified in the name of rehabilitation. Under this guise have been hidden compulsory ejections. the gutting and remodelling of buildings behind preserved facades and this in streets where district price promise could justify such mayhem.
