Abstract

With the exception of aboriginal protourban structures, canary island urban development is relatively recent. This paper tries to find an approach to a model of the insular urban system, during the two centuries inmediately after the start of the Conquest. The canary island urban system, has been a consecuence of a Conquest of an insular territory, and of administrative formulae for incorporation and colonization, which reflect the political, socioeconomic, interinsular tensions, that make for the oscillation of the hegemonic primacy as between the main towns within the region.
