Abstract

The spatial planning of public services affects different social groups and agents, who have conflicting interests. In order to tackle such a problem, a two phase methodology is proposed. In the first phase, that of the generation of alternative spatial patterns for the facilities, both intuitive ideas and an optimization model are used. In the second, for the selection of the best pattern, various multi-criteria evaluation methods are used. The procedure is applied to a pilot study for the designing of a new schools location pattern in a rural area of the Northern Madrid (Spain).
