Abstract

A study and analysis of certain urbanistic pathologies is here held to be a way of clarifying the secrets inherant in social attitudes to rural ground and its usage. A close study is made of the specific case of illegal squatting on land on the outskirts of Palma do Majorca. From this. general conclusions are drawn as to the better ordering of non-buildable ground-space. The countryside has always been a living space whose changes have been undergone on a wide scale. Those changes that it might now suffer should thus be envisioned in terms of their generalizeable consequences. The proposal here put forward tends towards such an analytic reappraisal. judging new transformations in the light of this insight.
