Abstract

A broad study of the ways urbanism has been taught in various countries has led to a possible identification of a series of basic variables that higlight the contrasting modes and point of view that characterize the thinking of the countries studied as to this subjet. These variables typified by the author as principal dimensions are here said to be: professional ideology, social context, organization, material possibility and content, each of these being brought under close examination within the text. In a like manner the differing teaching methods used po urbanism in each of the studied countries is brought into focus and discussed. The work ends with a series of wellfounded considerations as to the state of this question in Spain, these being drawn from the interrelated study of the dimensions and varied modalities of the same in the context of the countries previously examined.
