Abstract

In certain Spanish urban agglomerations, we find metropolitan processes that may be
regarded as hidden or covered. They respond to specific factors and have frequently been
overlooked in the design of the instruments of urban and territorial planning. With the aim of
making progress in the understanding of these singular processes, we approach the case of
Córdoba (Spain), taking as point of departure an approximation to the basic components of its
metropolitan territory and of its meaning in the Andalusian context. As a conclusion, we
formulate a series of guidelines that, in the opinion of the authors, should be taken into account
when carrying out the territorial arrangement of this city and of other places with similar
characteristics.
