Towards the Integration of Andalusia in the Knowledge Society. Some Regional Metropolitan and Local Public Strategies

Knowledge and innovation act as major drivers of competitiveness and economic dynamism
allowing maximizing the productive potentials of enterprises but also territorial development,
promoting environmentally sustainable behaviors, socially cohesive and geographically balanced.
Consequently, increased interest in the analysis of public policies and strategies are being
developed to foster innovation and integration of the territories in the knowledge society. In this
general context of reference, the aim of this paper is to analyze the territorial dimension of
innovation in Andalusia, as well as strategies of action undertaken by public institutions from
different levels and different spatial scales to promote interest in knowledge and innovative capacity
of society and territories. Special attention is given to the metropolitan area of Seville and within
this, the proposals made by the local administration in Alcalá de Guadaíra, because provides an
interesting example of this kind of strategy.
