Rural Landscape: The Anthropology of a Territory
Keywords:

The paper describes the rustic and ancestral world of Tierra de Sayago where the architectonic scale proper
to its understanding is seen as the homestead and holding thus the final one of a list running from the
territorial, urban, architectonic but a necessary one at that for any perception of the nature of this specific
territory in question for here is to be found that space that encapsulates the character of those who have created
it. The cortina or homestead with its holding is not only the basic unit of agricultural exploitation but the
way in which the territory is peopled. These domestic microcosms expressing themselves as much by the shelter
and those and that it shelters represent a miniature society that governs the day-to-day cultural facts of life
of the labourers and cattle men of Sayago.
