Basis for the Cataloguing and Conservation of Trees of Note
Keywords:
Arbolado, catálogos, conservación de la naturalezaAbstract
The paper proposes minimum theoretical grounds as to the justification for and teleology of including trees
held to be of note within catalogues and protection orders. Having begun with a brief overview of previous
Spanish preservation policy as to such trees, the paper sets out and analyses the grounds on which a tree
might be considered to come within this very special definition. The measures to be taken to protect such
trees are seen to differ from those adopted when assuring the well being of other natural elements though
it is here felt that Government at all levels remains somewhat hazy as to this particular in its day to day
dealings with exceptional trees. The paper is rounded out with a study of the technical and legal ends to and
implications of preserving trees of note after which the theoretical grounding for drawing and keeping up a
catalogue of such plants is suggested.
