The Pyrenees natural habitat: limits and determining factors for the development of economic activities
Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to present a synthesis of the main characteristics of the Pyrenees natural habitat as well as emphasize on the way this habitat has implied a determining factor for the development of some economic activities of the population. Starting from these bibliographical and cartographic sources, the delimitation of the Pyrenees has been first considered as well as the characteristics and limits imposed by the structure of relief and the steep slopes, the rigor of temperatures and the existing climatic diversity, the different kinds of potential dominant vegetation, their main transformations and some aspects of the soils. To conclude the different natural sectors are related with the uneven distribution of the population in the Pyrenees.Downloads
