Home Hospitalization: Two Years of Operating Experience

Abstract

It is shown the working experience of the home hospitalization unit belonging to ?Del Río Hortega? Hospital, in Valladolid, during the years 1988 and 1989. The profit of this Care Unit is emphasized, as it reduces the patient?s lenth of stay in the Hospital, for it shortens thc postoperative period in some specific surgical pathologies (hernias, colelitiasis, appendicitis) and allows an earlier hospital discharge in case of terminal pathologies and cronical diseases, makes it possible to reduce the health care- costs and to retum the patient to his family environment sooner.
