Abstract

This paper reflects the part of the Program 2014-2019 of the European Commission chaired by Mr. J.-C. Juncker, aimed at complementing the Banking Union with a Capital Markets Union, summarizing its justification, and examining certain cases of integration of specific segments of the securities markets. Also, it summarizes the important work performed by the EU since 1999 to integrate the securities markets, and its normative results, which set the basis for achieving the projected Capital Markets Union by the end of the term of Mr. Juncker’s Commission. Finally, there is an assessment of the pending tasks ahead, as well as a synthetic view of the importance of the new Union for a country like Spain.
