Abstract

The purpose of this article is to assess the importance of the Committee of the Regions in the European Union decision-making structures 20 years after its creation. After the high initial expectations that envisioned the Committee as a third legislative chamber or a Regional State, the Committee is in the process of becoming an instrument for the political control of the correct application of the subsidiarity principle. And this might be, precisely, the function that will ultimately make it an important player in the European Union decision-making process.
