Abstract

This work provides information about the history of the Sociedad Aragonesa de Ciencias Naturales. This institution was founded in 1902 and, originally, was formed by regional scientists; later, it was made up by residents in 30 Spanish provinces. The Sociedad Aragonesa de Ciencias Naturales was influenced by religious personalities, mainly Jesuits. The scientists who stood out were the entomologist Longinos Navás Ferrer and the botanist, secular, Carlos Pau Español. The Sociedad Aragonesa de Ciencias Naturales, which devoted a great part of its activity to zoological and botanical studies and, to a small extent, to geology, disappeared in 1918, but it turned into the Sociedad Ibérica de Ciencias Naturales.
