Abstract
Abeach morphology and sediment monitoring program was carried out in the littoral between Chipiona and Rota (Cádiz, SW Spain). By this way, longshore distribution of morphodynamic beach types and littoral evolution during the studied period (1996-1998) were obtained, taking into account monthly volumetric changes in beach sediments. Intermediate-reflective beaches recorded a general growth, while dissipative ones showed a variable behaviour and beaches with a wide rocky-shore platform in the foreshore recorded erosion or no important changes, probably working as sediment by-pass zones. This kind of information is very useful in coastal zone management, especially concerning coastal erosion, since it facilitates adequate design of beach nourishment works.
