Abstract

Refill phases identification in check dams in torrential streams is complicated because the hydraulic characteristics of the floods suffer important variations during the lifespan of structure, causing displacements of the depositional subenvironments inside the dam. The study of the sediment wedge preserved after the destruction of the final check dam C20 in the Cárcavo Rambla (Segura River Basin) has allowed the reconstruction of the depositional sequences in the sediment fill. The sedimentary facies analyses and the study of the 2D architecture have allowed a detailed description and interpretation of the lithofacies associations. The proposed depositional model for check dams is significantly different than those commonly suggested for reservoirs.
