The transformation of cattle production in Spain (1940-1985)
Abstract
This article contains a critical survey on the transformation of cattle production in Spain along of three periods: the missing years of autarchy (1940-1959); the crisis of traditional cattle based on indigenous races, and the consolidation the new model of industrial cattle induced by demand from alien races and rising quantities of feeds imported (1960-1975); and the years of profitability crisis characterized by progressive exhaustion of productivistic model of industrial cattle (1975-1985). The conclusion is a defense of extensification of cattle production to adapt it to new market segments and stop territorial depopulation processes.Downloads
