Abstract

The ethnographic study of shepherds and their transhumant activity has long been an area of interest for scientists and researchers, who have worked on it from different perspectives. This paper aims to illustrate the current state of the art on this topic, mainly in Spain, but also focusing on all of the Mediterranean region. Other topics such as the new "museums" perspective and the modern and emerging transhumance festivals are discussed. Further research topics and new work areas to be developed are also considered.
