Abstract
El libro de José Antonio Pérez Rubio es un análisis muy amplio y detallado de una gran cantidad de elementos que giran en torno a una idea central, explicar el porqué del “atraso” de Extremadura, en un periodo clave de nuestra historia reciente, desde la instauración de la dictadura franquista hasta la entrada de España en la Comunidad Económica Europea. La importancia de esta idea central radica en que ese periodo histórico en Extremadura, según va demostrando el autor a lo largo de las más de 750 páginas de texto, presenta situaciones y transformaciones diferenciadas respecto de casos, como el de Andalucía, con el que frecuentemente se le asocia.
