Resumo

The Spanish resident ambassadors at the Court of Elizabeth I are pivotal, within the scope of Renaissance diplomacy, for the understanding of the Anglo-Iberian relationships during the second half of the 16th century. Out of all of Philip II’s ambassadors, Don Diego Guzman de Silva stands out of the list for his particular relationship with the Queen. This relationship is arguably a consequence of a mixture between emotions and diplomatic skills, known as diplomatic emotionology. Comprehending this innovative kind of diplomacy opens a new array of opportunities for Renaissance studies by putting the focus on the subject and their agency.
