Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Check the word count (including footnotes and references)

    • Articles: 5,000–8,000 words.
    • Notes: 2,000–3,500 words.
    • ŸReviews: 1,000–1,500 words.

     

  • Include an abstract (100 words max) and 5 keywords in English if you're submitting an article or a note.

    If possible, send them in Spanish and Portuguese as well. If none of these is your native language, let us know.

  • Format, citations, and references follow SEDERI’s style sheet.

  • Use American English spelling and punctuation.

  • Copyright: no copyright of another journal, author or publisher is infringed in this piece.

  • Obtain permissions for publication of copyrighted material (pictures, photographs, etc.).

  • Include the following information in the “Comments to the editor” section:
    -Full name of the author(s)
    -Institutional Affiliation: University and Department
    -Postal address of the author(s)’ office
    -Post code. City and Country
    -Institutional email address

  • Plagiarism statement
    SEDERI Yearbook follows a strict ethical commitment to the publication of original material. SEDERI uses a plagiarism-detection software. If suspected cases of plagiarism are detected, the manuscript will not be published and authors will be informed.
  • Co-authorship
    If the article is accepted for publication, the authors will be listed alphabetically in the byline. The authors will be asked to specify their individual contributions in a footnote at the beginning of the article.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

  • Time from submission to first decision: 2-3 weeks average
  • Time from submission to first post-review decision: 3-4 months average
  • From acceptance to publication: 6-9 months average
  • Number of readers prior to decision: 2-3
  • Articles/notes submitted per year: 10-15
  • Acceptance rate: 40%

STYLE SHEET AND NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

Submissions should be done via SEDERI's online platform. You will be required to attach your article/note in Word or Rich Text Format. Please omit any personal information in the file of your essay. Include your personal details in a separate file.

Recommended length of contributions:

  • Articles: 5,000 - 8,000 words (including footnotes and references).
  • Notes: 2,000 - 3,5000 words (including footnotes and references).

    Notes should be pieces of research focusing on a specific point, not requiring a broad theoretical or contextual elaboration.

  • Reviews: 1,000 - 1,500 words. Books, plays, or films reviewed should have been released in the last two years. Reviews should be sent to the Review Editor (migramalhete@hotmail.com) and not through the platform. 

Articles and notes should include an abstract (100 words) and 5 keywords.

  • The abstract (max. 100 words) should convey the essential aspects of your research.
  • The 5 keywords (or phrases) are essential to locate your essay in connection with specific topics, authors, periods, and approaches. Avoid being too broad or too narrow. 
  • They will be published in English, Spanish and Portuguese. If you cannot provide these translations, our translators will do that for you.

FORMAT

MARGINS: 2,5 cm for all the margins.

FONT: Times New Roman 12 throughout the whole text (including title, subtitles, notes, quotations, etc.). Non-standard ASCII characters or unusual fonts, particularly special characters in Old and Middle English, Phonetics or Greek, illustrations, graphics, tables, pictures, etc. must be consulted with the editors.

HEADINGS AND SUBHEADINGS should be capitalized in the same font and size.

LINE SPACING: 1’5.

Please do not include HEADERS, FOOTERS or PAGE NUMBERS.

Use FOOTNOTES instead of endnotes.

SPELLING and PUNCTUATION: American English.

QUOTATIONS:

  • Short quotations (up to 40 words) should be incorporated into the text, using quotation marks (“ ”).
  • Longer quotations should be indented without quotation marks and no italics.

 BIBLIOGRAPHY

SEDERI follows the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) in its latest version (Chicago Style 17th ed). For a quick citation guide, see  https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-2.html

  1. References within the text and in footnotes

SEDERI uses the author-date citation system, that is, the identification of sources is given in parenthetical citation in the text as they are mentioned or needed for support in the text.

  • The information in parenthesis should include: author + publication year + page number(s).

           Example: (Owen 1996, 27)

  • If the author’s name is mentioned in the text, there is no need to repeat it in the citation.

     Example: ... Owen (1996, 27), has downplayed the importance of personal satire...

Footnotes are intended for providing further detail / commentary or for explanatory purposes.

  1. List of bibliographical references

A list of works cited should be provided at the end of the essay under the heading “References,” following the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS16).

Performance reviews

SEDERI collaborates with www.ReviewingShakespeare.com. Reviews about Shakespearean performances submitted for publication to SEDERI will be also sent to www.ReviewingShakespeare.com, who will decide on its suitability for publication on their webpage. Inversely, a selection of reviews of Spanish and Portuguese productions of Shakespeare’s plays submitted directly to the webpage will be published in SEDERI.

Copyright Notice

The copyright holder of the published contributions is SEDERI.

The hardcopy and an open-access version of the journal will be published simultaneously. The issues will be available online in the SEDERI website (http://www.sederi.org/yearbook/) and other repositories that have signed an agreement with SEDERI.

The authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

a) SEDERI retains copyright of the essay.
b) If the author wishes to republish or rewrite the essay for another journal, or include the essay published in SEDERI in their personal repositories, or in any other way, they should contact the editors to obtain permission to do so. This will entail citing SEDERI as the original source and sending the editors a copy of the new version, or the link to the website, in case of online publishing.

The author(s) hereby warrant(s) that:

a) The essay submitted for publication is an original creation and does not infringe any copyright or property right of another journal, author or publisher.

b) The essay submitted for publication has not been previously published, whole or in part, and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 5 from Organic Law 15/1999, dated 13th December, concerning the Protection of Personal Data, we wish to inform you that personal information provided to the journals to which FECYT provides access is included in a file belonging to the journal “SEDERI”. It is possible to check each journal’s purpose in the section “about/contact”.

We also inform you that FECYT acts as data processor for each of the files owned by the journals.
