Abstract

Autonomy and relationships of the Teichostrophiinae, as a subfamily branch of the Family Strophodontidae are discussed. Teichostrophia integrates two different subgenera, T. (Teichostrophia), with Strophomena lepis as type-species, and T. (Gozoniella) n. sg. with T. (G.) barroisi n. sp. as type-species. The new subgenus occurs in the upper Emsian of the Astur-Leonian domain of the Cantabrian Mountains represented by three species, i.e. the type-species, and T. (G.) naranjoana and T. (G.) tricornuta. Several Emsian species from the La Saoura (Algeria), Zemmour Noir (Mauritanie), Pyrenees (Spain, France), Armorican Massif (France), and Kellerwald (Germany), usually assigned to Teichostrophia lepis could also belong to the new subgenus.
