Abstract

Three subgenera of Hamatolenus Hupé, 1953 have been defi ned up to now: H. (Hamatolenus) Hupé, 1953, H. (Myopsolenus) Hupé, 1953 and H. (Lotzeia) Sdzuy, 1958. In Spain, only the two first genera had been recognized with the species H. (Lotzeia) lotzei Sdzuy, 1958 and H. (Hamatolenus) ibericus Sdzuy, 1958. We present here the first specimen of H. (Myopsolenus) found in the Iberian Peninsula. The stratigraphic distribution of the genus Hamatolenus maybe a useful tool for correlation of materials of Lower-Middle Cambrian age in the siliciclastic facies of Perigondwana region. Furthermore, from a palaeobiogeographic point of view, the fi nding of the genus shows faunistic similarities between the Mediterranean and Avalonian subprovinces, for this interval.
