Author Guidelines

EDITORIAL POLICY AND REVIEW SECTIONS
The Revista de Derecho Comunitario Europeo has published original research on European law since 1974 in the form of Studies, Notes and Case Comments.
All contributions submitted for publication should be unpublished: papers published in other journals, books or papers in conference proceedings will not be accepted for publication. Contributors are committed to not having already published the same article, and not to submit it for consideration for publication elsewhere during the review process. 

The Revista de Derecho Comunitario Europeo (RDCE) may use, at any stage of the editing process, one or several anti-plagiarism programs in order to verify that the manuscript is original and that intellectual authorship be respected.

The Editorial Board may request review essays, short reviews or notes. Only reviews requested by the RDCE will be published.
SUBMITTING A MANUSCRIPT TO THE RDCE
Manuscripts should be sent electronically through the Spanish Repository of Science and Technology (http://recyt.fecyt.es/index.php/RDCE/index). Once registered at this OJS platform as an author, you will be able to submit originals, to follow the submission and evaluation process and to update your user profile.
In case you want to submit a manuscript [please check citation rules and other format requirements below], you can register at the platform as follows:
1. Access http://recyt.fecyt.es/index.php/Hyp/user/registerJournal, complete the user profile and click "register".
2. Use your password to enter the journal (http://recyt.fecyt.es/index.php/Hyp/login). Go to the "My journals" section (access is on the side panel).
3. Click on the "Author" role (in blue) for the journal.
4. Click on "CLICK HERE TO START THE SUBMISSION PROCESS"
5. Follow the instructions.
In case you experience any trouble in following this process, an email may be sent to the attention of the Executive Director of the Revista de Derecho Comunitario Europeo (public@cepc.es). Receipt of manuscripts will be acknowledged within thirty days after submission.
PUBLICATION LANGUAGES
The RDCE accepts papers in Spanish and in English (but only in case of non-Spanish-speaking authors). RDCE edition does not involve linguistic revision of manuscripts, so the English linguistic correctness must be assured by authors with a native speaker reviewer.
FORMAT
Original papers must be submitted in Word files (*.doc or *.docx) using a Times New Roman 12 font and double-spaced. Footnotes will use Times New Roman 10 and single-spaced.
As to maximum length (including footnotes but not abstract or key words in English, Spanish and French), submitted contributions will respect these limits: Studies will not exceed 16 000 words (approx. 40 pages), Notes should not exceed 10 000 words (approx. 25 pages) and Case comments will not exceed 6000 words (approx. 15 pages, using footnotes for literal quotations of the judgment). Because of the relevance of the topic and/or scientific value, the Editorial Board may consider longer contributions which do not surpass the length limit in more than 15 %.
At the beginning, all manuscripts must contain Title, Abstract and Key words in English, Spanish (Título, resumen, palabras clave) and French (titre, résumé, mots clés). Abstract length should remain between 150 and 250 words. Linguistic correction of abstracts and key words are incumbent upon authors. Afterward manuscripts will include a Summary, which will reproduce, as an index the structure of the manuscript numbered as follows.
Articles will be structured in numbered sections and subsections. Sections will use Roman numerals (I, II, III...). Subsections will be numbered in Arabic (1., 2., 3., 4., 5.,…) with the possibility of introducing sublevels also in Arabic numbers (1.1, 1.2, 1.3,...). The RDCE recommends, however, not introducing more than two sublevels.
A bibliography of cited sources will be placed at the end of the paper and alphabetically ordered without differentiating any category (see below).
To guarantee the confidentiality of reviews, the text should neither contain the name of the author (s), nor any reference that allows them to be easily identified (projects, seminars, acknowledgments, etc.). Note that in Word processing program there is a section in File / Properties, from which you must delete all information regarding authorship and/or organization. Once the article is accepted for publication, all references may be included later in the editing process.
CITATION RULES
In line with current international scientific academic standards promoting visibility, impact and digital content exchange, the RDCE will adopt new citation rules from 2018 on. Since this new system implies a deep change, authors are kindly asked to read these new rules carefully.
Scientific literature citation
Citation of scientific sources will stay in main text as a rule. Thus, footnotes must not be used for only source citation purposes. Harvard citation system (author, year: page) will apply. Every citation must correspond with an entry in the final Bibliography.
- One author will be cited by both surnames, if that is the case:
(Rodríguez Iglesias, 2012: 72), (Louis, 2015)
- Two authors will be cited by their first surnames using "and"::
(Mangas y Liñán, 2014: 87-120)
- Three or more authors will be cited by the first signing author followed by et al.:
(Martín Rodríguez et al., 2006), (Kilpatrick et al., 2014: 23-24)
- When several works of the same cited author have the same year, disambiguation will be attained by adding a, b, c to the year:
(Del Valle Gálvez, 2003a) (Del Valle Gálvez, 2003b)
- In case the name of the authors is part of the main text, the source will be indicated in brackets, if necessary after the literal quotation:
Como afirma Gosalbo Bono, "Esta ratio decidendi del fallo también podría servir de base para impugnar otros acuerdos comerciales" (2016: 74).
Footnotes
Manuscripts will only use footnotes in Arabic numbers and superscripted. Footnotes only contain additional information or text. If they include bibliographical references, the same Harvard system will apply.
Case law citation
Referencing a judgment in the main text will be done by name case in italics, including those conventionally used:
As stated by the CJEU in the Melloni judgment,...
The ERTA case-law applies...
All cited case law will include a complete reference in footnotes. International, European and national case law will follow their respective official citing method and, if possible, the European Case Law Identifier (ECLI) will be included. When the ECLI is used, no additional reference to official collection or reports is necessary.
Official citing may be substituted by the following formula: 'Resolution type' of the 'Judicial Body' of 'date', case name and/or number, and ECLI.

BIBLIOGRAPHY
It must be placed at the end of the paper. Only references used will be included without further additional bibliography. APA (American Psychological Association) system will be used. The bibliography will be ordered alphabetically without any subdivisions. In the following, examples of most common types are offered:

Regarding electronic sources, a general disclaimer stating that all cited electronic sources have been accessed at a concrete date may be used in order to avoid the date of retrieval of every source. This option is strongly recommended by the RDCE.

Publication process
The Editorial Committee will review the quality of works (Studies and Notes). If appropriate, the Editorial Committee can decide to publish the work on the basis of two evaluation reports issued by two experts from outside the Editorial Board of the journal, through the double blind peer review method. The evaluations will take into account the creativity, rigor and methodology of the submitted papers, and their proposals and contributions. The internal evaluation process will ensure anonymity. Publication may be conditional upon the introduction of modifications to the original version, and subject to changes to ensure consistency with these Guidelines.
The communication of the decision on the publication and the publication prior review will be justified and will not exceed six months. Authors of papers accepted for publication will be responsible for checking and correcting the proofs within a deadline of 48 hours. The modifications introduced in the proofs will be limited to the correction of errors and substantial alterations in the proofs will not be allowed.
