Abstract

This article analyzes how the enlargements, the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and the responses to the euro-crisis have altered the institutional balance upon which its stability is based. The institutional framework launched for economic governance seems affected by a serious lack of legitimacy and changing roles. It is observed the growing influence of the European Council and the intergovernmental framework (Council, Eurogroup and the Euro summits) and the marginalization of the traditional roles of the Commission and the European Parliament.
