Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the structure, activity and characteristics of the Provincial Beneficence Establishment of Segovia from its origin until the beginning of the spanish civil war (1836-1936). Several sources have been used: the general regulations of the institution, the specific one of the maternity section, the municipal registers of 1860, 1881, 1905 and 1930, the registers of the poor, welfare registers, oral testimonies of foundling, contemporary local press and the Official Gazette of the Province. For its analysis, we will focus on its creation, composition, population helped, operation, social inclusion and daily life of the institution.

Rubén De La Fuente Núñez, Universidad internacional de La Rioja

PhD in History Cum Laude from the Complutense University of Madrid. Lecturer at the International University of La Rioja (UniR). His main lines of research focus on welfare studies, migratory networks, the female, male and child labour market, socio-economic geography of urban space and epidemics. He has published articles in Estudios Segovianos, Anuario Jurídico y Económico Escurialense, Investigaciones Históricas, Asclepio and Estudios de Historia de España.
