Abstract

This article offers a study about the Escuela Sindical, an institution founded in 1948 by Fermín Sanz-Orrio (then Head of the Organización Sindical), which specialised in the training of trade union cadres. It had two main objectives: to disseminate the principles of the National Movement among workers, and to contribute to the process of promoting Christian-social postulates within official trade unionism. As the latter was to be a source of conflict, the study of the first years of activity of the Escuela Sindical constitute a good case study on the tensions between the different tendencies within Franco’s dictatorship.
