Abstract

The aim of this article is to reflect on Georges Valois’ response to the “crisis of the social corps” during the advent of the masses. the writings and experiences of the integral nationalist theorist and founder of the first French fascist party between 1907 and 1928 highlights the numerous contradictions when trying to bind the masses in a movement governed by a meritocratic idiosyncrasy. Therefore, the main thesis of the text is to demonstrate how syndicalist and corporatists counterrevolutionary solutions were not able to solve the social conflict aroused by the liberal-capitalist modernity.

D. student at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the thesis "Mort a la modernitat. La trajectòria inconformista de Georges Valois: de la crisi finisecular al feixisme, 1878-1928". His academic publications include "Georges Valois o la in-coherencia de un in-conformista: Un viraje hacia el fascismo (1880-1925)" (Historia y política, 38, 2017) and "El 'hombre nuevo' fascista frente a la vieja política.
