Community interpreting: an african perspective

El presente artículo busca definir el concepto de interpretación comunitaria dentro del conjunto amplio de Interpretación entre lenguas, deteniéndose tanto en los elementos comunes que comparte con otras ramas de la Interpretación como en las peculiaridades. En un segundo momento, busca presentar algunos rasgos y características de la práctica de la traducción comunitaria en un contexto geográfico y cultural no suficientemente apreciado o estudiado: se trata de añadir una perspectiva africana al estudio de dicha interpretación comunitaria. Abstract Community Interpreting: An African Perspective Charles TIAYON First of all, this article seeks to define the concept of Community Interpreting within the wider framework of Interpreting between languages, focusing its attention not only in those common elements that it shares with other branches of Interpreting, but in its specific elements as well. Secondly, it seeks to disclose some of the features and characteristics of Community Interpreting in a cultural and geographical environment not usually attracting much attention from researchers and professionals.
