"Mira dentro de mi": La écfrasis y la ilusión de la intimidad en Still Life (2019) de Ciaran Carson

Resumen

A pesar de la publicación de tres libros refiriéndose directamente a la intersección entre texto y obras visuales — Fishing for Amber (1999), Shamrock Tea (2001), Still Life (2019) — la obra de Ciaran Carson no ha recibido considerable atención con respecto a su contribución al tema de la poesía ecfrástica en la literatura irlandesa. Varios textos, por el otro lado, se han dedicado a la discusión de la calidad territorial y espacial de su poesía y prosa. Este artículo busca acortar la distancia entre ambos campos replanteando el modo ecfrástico como la aproximación de un contacto íntimo pero ilusorio entre autor, lector, y texto. Usando el papel doble del ‘estudio,’ entendido tanto como un dibujo de práctica y una habitación privada, este artículo argumenta que la colección final de Ciaran Carson, Still Life, representa una nueva interpretación de cómo las conexiones íntimas en espacios domésticos pueden ser presentadas en la literatura norirlandesa.

Francisca Fernández-Arce, Universidad de Chile

Francisca Fernández-Arce holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Universidad de Chile and a MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture from the University of York. She has worked as a teaching assistant at Universidad de Chile in the areas of Medieval and Renaissance English literature, Shakespeare, and Modernist and post-War English literature since 2021. She has published an edited version of her undergraduate dissertation on W. B. Yeats and musical landscapes in the journal ESLA in 2019. She is currently working towards obtaining a diploma from Universidad Católica de Chile on aesthetics and philosophy.
