"No tan glamuroso en absoluto": Las consecuencias de la fama y el estatus de celebridad en de The Cranberries

Resumen

The Cranberries son considerados una de las mayores bandas que ha dado Irlanda. Desde 1993 hasta 2019, año en que se separaron después de la muerte de su cantante Dolores O’Riordan, lanzaron ocho discos de estudio y varios de sus singles, como “Linger” y “Zombie”, se convirtieron en auténticos éxitos. Después de dos discos muy bien recibidos por la crítica, su tercer trabajo To The Faithful Departed (1996) fue objeto de reseñas muy duras por parte de la prensa, ya que se consideró que sus letras eran por lo menos superficiales. Por consiguiente, el tercer álbum de The Cranberries ha sido analizado de este modo a lo largo de los años. El presente artículo pretende ofrecer un análisis nuevo y exhaustivo de To The Faithful Departed, centrándose en el impacto emocional que tuvo el estrellato en los componentes del grupo y, por lo tanto, en las letras del disco. El propósito del siguiente análisis es ofrecer una mayor comprensión sobre cómo To The Faithful Departed refleja el estado emocional de una banda que acababa de convertirse en celebridades dentro de la industria de la música. Este artículo puede considerarse innovador por dos razones: primero, porque el estudio académico sobre The Cranberries es nulo y, segundo, porque ofrece una nueva lectura de su tercer disco To The Faithful Departed.

Josep Baró Casanovas, Universitat de Barcelona

Josep Baró Casanovas graduated as a Primary School Teacher of English in 2005 (Universitat de Barcelona). Before graduating, he spent six months in Sweden as a teacher trainee. Since 2005 he has worked as a primary school teacher, and has participated in long-life learning programs for teachers in Italy, Sweden and The Netherlands after being awarded a teacher-training grant from the European Union. Furthermore, he is an ICT and a Moodle learning management system trainer for teachers. He also holds a First-Class Honours BA degree in English Studies (Universitat de Barcelona, 2020). As an independent researcher, he has given the lecture “Democracy, Immigration and School: the Case of a Public School in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona” at the seminar Democracy and Immigration: the Cases of Catalonia and Australia (Universitat de Barcelona, 2019); he has co-written the article “‘Love Me Or Leave Me’: An Analysis of Love as a Polarised Discourse in Pop Music” (Blue Gum Journal, 2019), and has recently given lectures on the Irish band The Cranberries for students of English at EOI Sabadell (Spain). At the time of this publication, he is one small step away from completing an MA in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
