Abstract

Metal-organic compounds, commonly known as MOFs (metal-organic frameworks), are porous solids formed by metal ions or clusters that coordinate with organic ligands to form uni-, di- or three-dimensional crystalline networks with permanent porosity by means of reticular synthesis (see figure 1). Thus, the same concept of metal-organic bond predisposes the possibility of synthesizing innumerable compounds, although in the case of ligands usually use rigid aromatic molecules. MOFs have been receiving the attention of the scientific and industrial community in recent years due to their characteristics and their various fields of application.
