Abstract

Based on World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, it is estimated that 82% of lower limb amputations are related to vascular disease. In addition, only one in 10 amputees is rehabilitated, and only 30% of those who have suffered an amputation have a proper functioning prosthetic limb. One of the consequences of poor performance is that prostheses do not fully fit the person and do not meet ergonomic requirements. Moreover, they are not adapted to physical needs. Occasionally, the gait cycle with an inadequate prosthesis is painful and abnormal.
