Abstract

The high number of pedestrian accidents produced in the Spanish urban and rural zones, jointed together with their severity, increases the relevance of the injury mechanisms analysis for developing less aggressive frontal shapes of vehicles, and passive safety devices that could help to reduce the pedestrian injuries. This document shows figures of pedestrian accidents at the present time, and the most frequent injury mechanisms, as well as the testing methods used by vehicle manufacturers and the devices they are introducing in their automobiles
