Abstract

In this article it is analyzed the historical evolution of the ABB power transformer plant located in Córdoba, Spain. It is intended to present the evolution suffered by the manufacturing complex from its beginnings, when it was originally created by the so called SECEM in 1930 until today in the well-known Asea Brown Boveri S.A (ABB), which is considered to be the world leader in the manufacture of power transformers and one of the five factories in the world where the two main technologies of power transformers (Core and Shell type) can be manufactured to their maximum power. In addition, it can be claimed that it is the only ABB plant in the world where Shell power transformers are manufactured. In particular, it has been analyzed the evolution of the suitability for building of the plant, which is closely linked to the technological and productive needs, in order to draw up the needs of the manufacture and demand of such products. The main aim of this research is to show the long career and importance that this factory, under different nomenclatures, has had on the social, economic and urban development of Córdoba, to generate a historical recreation and technological evolution in terms of development, resources and facilities.
