Abstract

The use of Stainless Steels in buildings applications is increasing due to the good properties of these steels, especially the esthetical appearance and the low maintenance working needs. One of the features to be considered in stainless steels structures is the joining of the different parts by welding processes that causes thermal consequences to the material. After welding, the cooling between 850ºC and 450ºC may produce the presence of fragile compounds. So, it is important to decrease cooling time between these temperatures up to a minimum value. In this work, the well-known t8/5parameter is selected as a welding process quality indicator. The t8/5value optimization is carried out by the Response Surface Method (RSM) for austenitic stainless steel sheet, welded by Gas Tugsten Arc Welding process. The thermal flow is considered bidimensional and the typical process parameter values are obtained from a previous numerical method.
