PRESENTATION OF 3D CONTENTS: FROM CLASSROOM TO JOB. USABILITY AND INFLUENCE IN SPATIAL ABILITY

Abstract

The complexity of the subjects of the technical studies, together with the low expectations of later job placement, have reduced the vocational access to these courses of new students, who, on the other hand, are also accustomed to the digital and spatial visualization of three-dimensional elements instead of the flatness corresponding to the traditional representation systems used in graphic expression. Therefore, in a university environment and with students of vocational training, the incorporation of digital 3D models has been performed, using augmented reality or other types of files like PDF3D or SKP of the program SketchUp. These files are shown as a way of presentation that, firstly assists the students in the understanding of the information in the technical drawing, both in the theoretical and practical classes, and finally, in their later presentation of their final projects, both in the academic and professional environment, in the final internships in companies. It can be affirmed that the incorporation or 3D models, both to the lectures and in the accomplishment of exercises has been positive. It has been observed: faster response with equal results in respect to the ability of spatial visualization, higher ratings in terms of usability thereof with respect to its three components (effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction), and greater involvement of students in the course, (in attendance, delivery and marks of practicals and presentation to the final exam). Furthermore, their ease of handling and communication makes them ideal for presenting projects at academic and professional level, since their compression is simple and adaptable even to those profane people in the matter, clarifying the message that is intended to communicate in all these cases.
