Abstract

Reducing the number of traffic accidents in urban roads has been a key objective over the past 10 years for organizations like the Directorate-General of Traffic (Dirección General de Tráfico, DGT, in Spanish). On the one hand, several campaigns have been promoted in order to raise awareness and responsibility of users, they also make changes in the regulation of sanctions and the investment in infrastructure has increased with the purpose of lowering the risk of accidents. On the other hand, it is increasingly common for industry and manufacturing processes veer to the use of technologies with less environment impact and renewable energy sources. The search for innovative sustainable systems that increase transport safety has prompted the Chemical Laboratory Testing and Quality Control (LQECC) to expose the beginning of their research in this direction. In this report, the analysis of different application technologies for vehicle detection and further signalling via LEDs. Keywords: road safety, smart materials, piezoelectric effect
