Aging and depressed areas in Western Andalusia (Spain)
Abstract
The article identifies the most aged areas in the Spanish region of Andalusia. Population decline and the lack of interest on the part of the younger generations bring about economical crisis as well as the underestimation of natural resources. The consequences are landscape deterioration and an increasing loss of what we can call "the feeling of that which is local". The article then describes more closely each area, taking into account both economic and sociological aspects. In this way we have been able to understand and define the present situation of the depressed areas in West Andalusia. We provide summary tables that have been of great help to this task. Finally, we give some recommendations for the territorial development plans that should be implemented.Downloads
