¿Good Bye to Work? A Critique of Universal Basic Income in Mexico from the Theory of Value Perspective

Abstract

By putting forth some of Marxist sociology of labor arguments along with the Marxist Dependency Theory perspective, this work seeks to develop a critique of the viewpoint that preaches the end of labor centrality in the current capitalist society and encourages the application of Universal Basic Income as social alternative mean.  Focused on the case of Mexico, the main argument presented here suggests that this perspective denies the new morphology of labor and conceives the State as an instrument of class conciliation, rather that class domination. As a result, it justifies the perpetuation of capital supremacy in social life reproduction, negating the presence of a social force able to transform capitalist relations of production based on labor exploitation.
