Abstract: Experts in development and motor behavior strongly agree about the necessity to include the effects of the environment in the assessment of child development considering home context is one of the most with significant impact. The purpose was to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Middle Childhood - Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment Inventory (HOME-MC). For content validation, four translators performed the translation and back-translation, and five expert judges carried out adaptation of the content. For the internal consistency and validation of the construct participated 648 parents and their child’s. The temporal validity was evaluated using the test-retest with an independent sample of 74 parents and their child’s. Data analysis was performed with Content Validity Coefficient (CVC), Cronbach's Alpha (CA), Compound Reliability (CR) and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Results: Content validity coefficients vary from 0.83 to 1.00, showing that the Brazilian version contains clear and objective questions, and an adequate internal consistency (α> 0.70 / CR> 0.70). The EFA revealed a satisfactory five-factor model (33 items), while the CFA demonstrated the HOME-SI six-factor model (29 items). Conclusion: The cross-cultural adaptation and validation of HOME-MC for the Portuguese language presented acceptable psychometric properties and had the six dimensions and twenty-nine items configuration.
