Abstract: The aim of this research consisted in testing how perceived transformational parenting style and participants´ age were associated with the different dimensions of physical self-concept. A total of six hundred and seventy-six students (aged 12-14) from Secondary Compulsory Education took part in this research. A Spanish adaptation of the “Transformational Parenting Questionnaire (TPQ)‟ [Cuestionario de Estilo Parental Transformacional] and an adapted version of the “Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form (PSDQ)” [Cuestionario de Autoconcepto Físico-versión reducida] were used. Results showed that a profound transformational parenting style was associated with higher perception of resistance, strength, coordination, appearance, and physical self-concept when compared with other variables, such as gender or Body Mass Index. No differences were found between these dimensions based on participants’ age. We should consider the possibility of carrying out family interventions in different areas if we aim to increase the distinctive traits of this parental collectivization style.
